This is a guide to get you started with MT330. Please read and understand it completely before using MT330.

Wrist Lanyard

The MT330 lanyard can be a convenient aid to pull MT330 out of your pocket or put over your wrist freeing your hands to hold other objects.

  1. Thread the small loop of the lanyard through the hole in MT330 so that it pokes through the other end.
  2. Feed the large loop of the lanyard back through the small loop and pull through. Complete.

Charging

  1. Fully Charge battery using the provided USB cable by connecting to either a PC or a 5V USB Power Adaptor.
  2. Total first-time charge period should not exceed 2 hours

 

Note:

  • Terminal will turn on while charging, this is normal
  • 5V USB Power adaptors are readily available from electronic retailers, alternatively you can purchase a 'Quest Certified' 5V USB Power Adapter directly from Quest. Contact Quest for more information.

Warning:

  • Do not charge for longer than 2 hours at a time as this will reduce life of battery
  • Output from Power Adapter must not exceed 5V. Voltages higher than this may damage the unit.
  • 5V USB Power Adapters are readily available for purchase from most electronics retailers, alternatively, you can be purchase a 'Quest Certified' 5V USB Power Adapter. Contact Sales for more information.

Battery

Quest MT330 is fitted with a 500mAh Lithium Ion Battery.

The following practices are recommended to maximize the battery life:

  • Only charge using a 5V power source
  • Total charge periods should not exceed 2 hours
  • Avoid full discharge of battery

Note:

  • The is no memory effect with this battery and periodic full discharge is not required to prolong battery life

Note: If required, a new Battery can be fitted by the owner. Only use genuine Quest replacement batteries.

Status Indicator

When the device is ON and idle, the Battery Status will be displayed in the top right hand corner.

Note: If MT330 has not been fully charged the status indicator will only be accurate 5 minutes after being removed from charger.

In this range the MT330 powers off instead of going to sleep. At 0% the MT330 will power off immediately

Important Information - Product Storage

If storing the device for longer than 7 days, fully recharge the device, followed by a recharge every 6 months.
To maximize battery life and prevent battery damage:

  • Do not store the MT330 device for extended periods with a depleted battery.
  • Store the MT330 in temperatures between 20 - 25'C
  • Do not leave MT330 exposed to direct sunlight (ie on dashboard of vehicles). Excessive temperatures will cause distortion of plastics and can lead to permanently disabling electronics.

 

Battery is fully charged and can be left untouched for 6 months.

Power / Sleep Button

To Turn On

Press and hold the button located at the top of MT330 for 3 seconds until you hear a beep tone, then release the button. The LCD will turn on.

To Sleep

Press and release the button to ‘Sleep’ MT330. Note: A transaction started by your device will wake MT330 from its ‘Sleep’ state.

To Turn Off

There are 2 options to turn off MT330.

As MT330 is entering 'Sleep', select ENTER on the MT330 keypad.

The MT330 will then show that it is powering off.

Alternatively, press and hold the button for 3 seconds until the LCD turns off.

Note: You will need to wait 5 seconds after turning off before attempting to turn MT330 back ON.

 

Restart

If for some reason MT330 will not respond, hold down the ‘Cancel’ button and press the ‘8’ button to perform a cold restart. This function will also run the MT330's power on self tests.

Taking Card Payments

TYPICAL Transaction

  1. You, the Merchant, ‘Tenders’ the transaction in the app (on your Host device)
  2. You hand over MT330 to your customer
  3. The customer follows the on screen prompts
    1. Insert or Swipe Card
    2. Select Account (‘1’ : CHQ, ‘2’ : SAV, ‘3’ : CR)*
    3. Enter PIN & Press ‘Enter’
    4. Remove Card (for Chip cards only)
  4. Customer returns MT330 to Merchant
  5. Merchant issues a receipt if required (either printed or digital copy sent via SMS or email)
  6. Transaction complete

* Account selection is not required in all markets.

inserting a chip card

Cards with a chip will be required to be inserted into MT330.

The ‘Chip’ on the card must be orientated upwards as shown below. The card must be inserted fully into MT330 until it stops. Leave the card inserted until prompted on the display to remove the card.

swiping a card

Cards without a chip or cards with a faulty chip will be required to be swiped.

The magnetic stripe on the card must be orientated upwards as shown below. The card can be swiped in either direction. Swipe the card along the bottom edge of the slot with a smooth action. One pass through the slot should be adequate to read the card successfully. If the card cannot be read, MT330 will prompt for the card to be swiped again.

PIN ENTRY

When required, MT330 will prompt the Customer to enter their card's PIN. PIN entry should always be completed on the MT330's secure keypad.

The ‘5’ Button includes raised pips to assist the visually impaired to enter their PIN.

ACCOUNT SELECTION

If required, MT330 will ask the Customer to select an Account for the transaction. Each account will have a corresponding numeric button.

For Cheque (CHQ) Account - Press 1

For Savings (SAV) Account - Press 2

For Credit (CR) Account - Press 3

CANCEL BUTTON

Pressing ‘Cancel’ (red button) at any stage before the customer enters their PIN, will void that transaction. Also use ‘Cancel’ to decline a prompt / question posed by MT330.

CLEAR BUTTON

Pressing ‘Clear’ (yellow button) at any stage before the customer enters their PIN, will void that transaction. Pressing ‘Clear’ during PIN entry will clear all PIN numbers to allow PIN entry again.

ENTER BUTTON

‘Enter’ (green button) is used to accept a prompt / question posed by MT330.

REPLACEMENT BATTERY

If required, a replacement Lithium-Ion battery can be installed in MT330.

RECHARGE CRADLE

The MT330 cradle contains charge contacts that connect directly to the outside of MT330. Simply drop in MT330 and walk away. Connect the MT330 Cradle using a standard 5V microUSB cable (supplied with MT330). Contact Quest for more information.

5V USB POWER SUPPLY

A convenient charging method is using the 'Quest Certified' 5V USB Power Adapter plugged into a AC (Mains) power outlet. Contact Quest for more information.

CARRY POUCH

Protect MT330 with our soft lined pouch, designed to exactly fit MT330. The pouch will significantly reduce the potential for pocket fluff to enter the Smart Card slot (which, if excessive can reduce the ability to read cards). Contact Sales for more information.

CONTACTLESS

To accept Contactless payments, an optional accessory is required to be attached to MT330. Speak to Sales for more information on its upcoming release.

CARE

Care should be taken to avoid excessive dust / dirt / fluff / foreign objects to enter the Smart card slot. Using the Quest Carry Pouch can drastically reduce foreign material entering the device. Do not used damaged cards or cards with foreign objects attached (eg. sticky tape, stickers etc).

CLEANING

Turn off MT330 (press and hold the Power button) before cleaning. Use a clean, micro fibre cloth to gently wipe the display and the case when required. Additionally, please ensure you:

  • use authorised Magstripe Reader (MSR) cleaning card on a regular basis to clear MSR slot.
  • use authorised smart card cleaning card on a regular basis to clean the smart card (chip) acceptor.

Warning: Avoid getting moisture in openings. Do not use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, ammonia, or abrasives.

CAUTIONS

Before operating MT330, read and understand all instructions in this guide.

  • Do not use MT330 whilst in control of a vehicle.
  • Do not use this equipment in an extreme environment where high temperature or high humidity exists.
  • Do not leave this equipment in a vehicle in direct full sun
  • Do not drop, knock or shake MT330. Rough handling could break internal circuit boards and mechanics.
  • Do not expose this equipment to rain or spilled beverages.
  • Avoid contact with other metal objects (eg. keys/coins in pocket) to avoid unsightly scratches.
  • Avoid activating buttons with long, pointed fingernails.
  • Avoid charging the Battery in strong heat or extreme cold environment. The battery has its optimum performance in an ambient temperature of 0°C to +45°C. Do not store the Battery near a fire or heat source. Never try to open the Battery as it contains substances that may be harmful if swallowed or allowed to come into contact with unprotected skin. Never short-circuit the Battery, as it may overheat and cause a fire. Keep it away from jewellery and other metal objects. Never dispose of the Battery in a fire. It could explode and release harmful substances into the environment. Never dispose of the Battery with your regular waste. Speak to your local authority about Battery collection.
  • Storage - Store MT330 in a cool dry place. If in long term storage, the battery must be fully charged before storage and the battery level must be periodically checked and recharged every 6 months to avoid damage to the MT330 or its battery.
  • Do not disassemble MT330 or its accessories. If service or repair is required, contact Quest to organise for the unit to be returned. If the unit is disassembled this will void the warranty and will render the device inoperable.

LOST OR STOLEN DEVICES

If your MT330 gets stolen, please contact your supplier for deactivation. Acting promptly will help to reduce any potential for fraud.

END OF LIFE

MT330 contains sensitive bank details. At end of life, your MT330 must be returned to your supplier for secure disposal.
